Bookkeeping is Like an AQUEDUCT
Think of your bookkeeping like an aqueduct, with a strong, durable foundation built to channel the workflow of information across time. We’re not moving your data bucket by bucket like a fire brigade, just keeping things from getting out of control. No, instead, we’re building a process for containing the data, properly allocating the data, sending the data ahead to serve the purpose of feeding you reliable, regular reports.
Your Bookkeeper is a BRIDGE
A good bookkeeper is a BRIDGE that communicates effectively with the landmasses at both ends – you, the small business owner, and the Tax Accountant at the other. We virtually carry information back and forth between the two. We are also small business owners ourselves and we have been working side by side with entrepreneurs and professionals like yourself for years, so we know the issues that you face, and have the experience to anticipate some of the problems or questions you haven’t yet thought of. Conversely, we speak the language of Accounting and know what the accountants, CPAs, EAs, and tax preparers are looking for or need from you within your work. We are the bridge between the two. Not an obstruction but someone that communicates in both languages.
The Bookkeeping PROCESS
The bookkeeping process is simple in that it is sequential and easy to follow along: DATA – RECONCILIATION – REPORTS. You go about your business each day creating financial transactions and want to jump right into the reports without reconciling the data. Reconciliations give us proof that the third-party documentation matches, and filters out any bad transactions, duplicates, errors, or complete misses. Only then do the reports actually mean something. Go with the process and your reports then become a tool to improve your business.
Bookkeeping HISTORY
Double-entry accounting, the system of debits and credit that is bookkeeping today, was formalized in a publication in Renaissance-era Italy in the year 1494 by a Franciscan Friar named Luca Pacioli. This honorable profession of accounting celebrates Luca as the most famous accountant who ever lived.
The Venetians, Romans, Florentines, all used some sort of double-entry accounting, legitimized in this publication. Known for its symmetry and balance, QuickBooks software has made the technically demanding part of accounting easier to use and understand.
